The Springfield City School District has launched a new mobile application that will better aid in communication to District families.
The app will house information for each District building (PK-12) including announcements, events, athletic schedules and dining menus. Each building principal has been trained on how to use the new communication tool and has the ability to send push notifications to the app in a matter of seconds.
While this tool is meant to aid in the day-to-day communication between school buildings and families, it will also prove extremely useful in times of crisis in which a message needs to be relayed quickly to families. Through the District’s website vendor, Apptegy, a message can be sent as a push notification, a text message, an email and a website post simultaneously.
“In the age of technology, we as school districts have to meet families where they are,” said SCSD Superintendent Dr. Bob Hill. “This is the type of messaging that we have all become accustomed to, and I believe the app will go a long way to close many communication gaps that may exist between school and home.”
The app is also able to be translated into dozens of languages, including Spanish and Haitian Creole, to serve the District’s rapidly growing English Language Learner populations.
