Springfield High School’s Wildcat Theatre has joined the Miami Valley High School Theatre Awards (MVHSTA) for the 2024-2025 season, the first year the District has participated in the regional event.
The Miami Valley High School Theatre Awards and Showcase are designed to celebrate, support, and advocate for high school theatre education throughout the Miami Valley region. Since 2018, the program has celebrated high school plays, musicals, students, and educators by formally recognizing the extraordinary achievements of the community’s productions.
The SHS cast and crew will be judged on their production of The Addams Family on April 24-26. Winners will be announced by MVHSTA in May, and all participating schools are invited to attend the awards ceremony and showcase in June at the Schuster Center in Dayton. Winning schools will be invited to perform, and two SHS students will also be selected to perform in the opening and closing of the showcase.
SHS Theatre Teacher Blythe Lavender is optimistic about the tremendous growth in participation in the fine arts that she has experienced since joining the District.
“Each year, we’ve welcomed both theatre veterans and new performers,” she said. “Thanks to the enthusiasm and commitment of our students, this year we produced a theatre season that is ready for competition! Our students are so excited to participate in the wider theatre community of Miami Valley schools through our musical, The Addams Family. This is just one step in the continued growth of our program that will hopefully include more shows, more community outreach, and more student-led projects."
