Several groups of Springfield City School District students observed Earth Day by participating in community beautification projects at their respective schools, showing that a concentrated and collective effort can have a large impact on the environment.
Members of the Springfield High School (SHS) National Honor Society, which consists of juniors and seniors, filled up several garbage bags by collecting litter around the SHS front entrance, athletic fields and the Health Center at Springfield High campus.
Additionally, SHS students in the Environmental Science, Advanced Placement Biology and International Baccalaureate Biology classes joined the fight against litter by picking up any debris in the back of the school and the area known as the ‘Land Lab.’
At Kenwood Elementary, the school hosted a clean up that was organized by the building’s Parent Lighthouse Team. A community partner supplied parents and students with gloves and trashbags, and each grade was given a 15-minute window to pick up their assigned area.
Great job to all of those who worked to make our world a little cleaner!
