A Springfield City School District student is being recognized at the tri-county level for her dedicated contributions to student mental and emotional health.
School of Innovation freshman, Hannah Mills, was awarded the ‘Youth Leader Award’ as part of the Exceptional People Awards from the Mental Health Recovery Board of Clark, Greene & Madison Counties.
Hannah has been involved in several projects that prioritize student well-being, beginning in her 7th grade year when she joined a student-led group at Roosevelt Middle School that focused on substance abuse prevention. She also attended the Youth Summit at Wittenberg University.
Her leadership skills blossomed in 8th grade, when she took a key position in the same prevention group at Roosevelt. The group created a public service announcement campaign to play at the Springfield movie theater aimed at promoting improved family communication. Hannah also attended the Youth to Youth Summer Leadership Conference and the Community Anti-Drug Coalitions for America Youth Training.
Now as a high school student, Hannah is assisting to plan this year’s Youth Summit and is also a member of the Clark County Partners in Prevention Youth Council. This year, the Council created a video for Red Ribbon Week that was circulated to all Clark County high schools and brought further awareness to the importance of drug prevention.
The SCSD is immensely proud to have students like Hannah represent the best of our District.
