Emergency Closings/Delays
Springfield City School District buildings will be open on regularly scheduled days unless the Superintendent of the Springfield City School District closes or delays the opening of school because of an emergency (extreme conditions of snow, ice, or mechanical failures).
Should weather conditions make it necessary to close (or delay) schools, the closing (delay) will be announced on local radio, local television, the district website, the BlackBoard Connect phone notification system, and through social media. If there is reason to believe schools may not be open, please tune to one of the listed stations for closing (delay) announcements. Closings, delays and early dismissals will be announced as soon as possible. Please do not call the stations, the school office, or the school district administration offices. Listen and watch for SPRINGFIELD CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT. Additionally, if schools are closed, there will be no after-school or evening activities in the building unless the Superintendent makes an announcement at noon.
TV Stations: ONN, WBNS, WCMH, WDTN, WHIO, WKEF, WSYX, and WRGT.
Radio Stations: WDHT (102.9 fm), WGRZ (92.9 fm), WHIO (1290 am & 99.1 fm), WING (1410 am), WIZE (1340 am), WKSW (101.7 fm), WMUB (88.5), WMMX (107.7 fm), WRNB (92.1 fm), WYSO (91.3).
Please discuss with your child what he/she is to do in case of an emergency early dismissal. Students will not be permitted to call home in most cases, and parents may not be able to reach the school because of a busy phone line. Please be sure that we have your most current address and phone numbers on file so that we are able to contact you in the event that an emergency situation arises that necessitates such action. Due to new FCC regulations, if you change your phone carrier, your number is automatically removed from the phone notification system. Please contact us if your phone carrier has changed, even if your phone number remains the same.
