Horace Mann Elementary School held a ‘Holiday Extravaganza’ on Thursday before Springfield City School District students were released for winter break.
In partnership with Shoes 4 The Shoeless (S4TS), over 200 Horace Mann students were given new shoes and socks – and just in time. The SCSD makes it a priority to hold a S4TS event at all elementary schools before the first snow of the season to ensure that students who walk to school are equipped with sturdy and comfortable shoes.
Each student was also given the opportunity to choose a new coat, a hat and a pair of gloves, as well as take home a new toy. Santa and Mrs. Claus also made a surprise visit to take pictures and wish the students a happy holiday season!
Several community partners and District volunteers assisted with the event, including Springfield High School Football, Springfield High School MJROTC, District Central Registration, District Health Services, The Springfield Foundation, Sunrise Cooperative, The Mental Health & Recovery Board of Clark, Greene & Madison Counties, The Gathering, Mercy Health and Two Hands Kneaded Massage Therapy.
Winter break for the District will begin Dec. 22. Classes will resume Jan. 3, 2024.
