The Springfield High School Mock Trial Team is headed back to the State Competition for a third consecutive year.
‘Team Wildcat,' consisting of seniors Hannah Mattison, Melissa McMahon, Joel Blum, Ben Oehlers, freshman Caroline Yontz and junior Brandon Taylor and ‘Team Gold,' composed of freshmen Emerson Babian, Aria Mills, Jude Earlywine, Marquis Myers and seniors Priscilla Ruelan and Brandon Tackett both put on impressive performances at the Franklin County Regional Competition on Feb. 16 to punch their team tickets to State.
In addition to advancing to the state level, the teams also brought home six individual awards. This will be Springfield High’s tenth appearance at the state level since 2011.
Teams from around Ohio will compete to become the 2024 Ohio Mock Trial State Champion in a three-day tournament in Columbus March 7-9. The trial rounds will take place at the Franklin County Courthouse, and the final round will be held Saturday, March 9 at the Supreme Court of Ohio.
Ohio Mock Trial offers an innovative approach to learning law and how the legal system functions. Guided by teachers and volunteer legal advisors, students participate in an original, unscripted simulated trial written by attorneys. High school students argue both sides of the case in real courtrooms across the state.
