In addition to the 407 seniors who walked across the stage to receive their diplomas earlier this spring, 19 graduates are celebrating their accomplishments after successfully completing the Springfield City School District’s Adult Education Program.
The District held a special ceremony earlier this week to honor the commitment these graduates have made to furthering their education. Of the 19 graduates in the Adult Education Program this year, 15 earned their GEDs and 4 earned their Adult Diplomas.
The SCSD offers in-person GED preparation courses to adults living within the District free of charge. Classes are offered during the day and evening hours at locations throughout the District. The Adult Diploma Program is offered online. When students complete this program, they can receive a SCSD diploma and in some cases, an industry credential.
“It takes courage to walk back into a classroom as an adult, put fear aside and pick up something that you left unfinished,” said SCSD Family Outreach Connections Coordinator, Lynn Payton. “Whether an individual is a few credits shy of achieving high school equivalency or in need of significant credit recovery, the District’s Adult Education Program can help them get back on track and achieve the goal they’ve been in search of.”
