In anticipation of the release of the Ohio School District State Report Card this week, the Springfield City School District is proud to announce that preliminary data from the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce shows progress for the 2023-2024 school year in Ohio’s School Accountability System.

The District improved in one of the five overall component ratings and saw increased student performance in thirteen of twenty tested areas. In addition, the following SCSD buildings are projected to meet state standards:

  • Fulton Elementary School: 3 star overall rating

  • Horace Mann Elementary School: 3.5 star overall rating

  • Simon Kenton Elementary School: 3 star overall rating

  • Snowhill Elementary School: 3 star overall rating

Additional highlights include increases in the gifted performance index, decreased chronic absenteeism and significantly increased performance in ‘Gap Closing’ for English learners, chronic absenteeism, math and English Language Arts progress. The Gap Closing component shows how well schools are meeting the performance expectations for students.

By prioritizing student learning outcomes, innovatively aligning instruction with Ohio’s Learning Standards and implementing the Science of Reading curriculum, alongside a strong emphasis on the mental health and well-being of both students and staff, the District continues to make significant progress toward the objectives outlined in the strategic plan adopted in 2021.

“Despite the numerous challenges our students encounter, including the well-established link between poverty and academic achievement, our committed team of educators and support staff work relentlessly to provide the very best for our students—offering high-quality education, exceptional educators who care and comprehensive support systems,” said SCSD Superintendent Dr. Bob Hill. “The correlation between improved student performance metrics and the reduction in chronic absenteeism is significant. Our team is excited to build on this positive momentum.”

In an ongoing effort to further promote continuous development and improve the culture of the District for both staff and students, the SCSD begins year two of The Leader In Me, a framework adopted at all academic buildings, which empowers each student to unlock their leadership potential.
