The Springfield High School ESports Team is celebrating its most successful season to date after recently winning its first state championship!
The ESports Team plays several different video games during their season, and the higher level team playing the game, Valorant performed well enough to advance to the state tournament.
The state championship game was played virtually at Wittenberg University’s new ESports arena.
ESports was launched as an extracurricular club at SHS in 2022, and has had great success in a short time. Played in both the fall and spring seasons, teams have consistently advanced to high levels of competition, but have fallen just shy of a championship – until now.
“I am proud of the players and staff who have helped to make Springfield ESports what it is today,” said ESports Coach and Springfield High Math Teacher, Marc Sharpnack. “I am very proud of my Premier Valorant team for coming together and communicating well in order to win. It was a slow start to the season with the Valorant team, but they came back with more zeal, wanting that title.”
The SHS Premier Valorant Team consists of Aaron Beach (Senior), Thai Gevedon (Senior), Camden Holland (Junior), Carson Holland (Junior) and Gabe Thomas (Senior). Congratulations to these Wildcats and ESports Coach, Mr. Sharpnack!
