Art students at the School of Innovation are creating ceramic bowls which will be donated to the Springfield Soup Kitchen.
The art class is made up of 8-10 students and each one is involved in this project. Their goal is to make 40 to 50 bowls to deliver to the soup kitchen on April 2; they will then assist in serving meals.
Each bowl will feature an encouraging and inspiring message written by the students.
School of Innovation art teacher Jeffrey Brunner secured a District grant related to leadership and student-led experiences, which allowed for the purchase of throwing wheels and other materials.
Brunner came up with the idea to do this project after seeing a need within the community; the soup kitchen serves the homeless, those recently unemployed and others who are in need.
“I wanted to give back more directly and create a way for the students to be more involved as well,” he said.
