Hayward Middle School students in Mrs. Chadeayne's science class recently presented projects that were judged by Springfield first responders.
Each student group had to come up with an idea for an energy capturing device that answered the question, 'How is it possible to charge electrical devices when the power is out?' Many students designed devices that used solar energy, wind energy or energy generated by physical activity.
They then presented their device's design, as well as its advantages and disadvantages to a group of first responders, including members of the Springfield Fire Rescue Division and the Springfield Police Division -- who are all experts in emergency preparedness situations.
Students were judged based on their design concepts, as well as their presentation skills. They earned big kudos from the judges for their creative ideas. Way to go, Hayward!
