We appreciate the hard work demonstrated by all members of the District, and we aim to honor that commitment by offering comprehensive benefit packages that cover you and your family when you when you need them most.
How do I get signed up or make changes to my coverage?
First, review the SCSD Benefits Booklet and Premium Insert to understand your options. Once you've made your choices, fill out the Benefits Election form and the optional FSA Enrollment form and return them to the Springfield City School District Human Resources Benefits Specialist. HR will intake your forms and answer any additional questions you may have.
Are there any restrictions for obtaining or modifying insurance coverage?
Yes.
Eligible employees may only obtain coverage or make changes to their plan when newly hired or during open enrollment. This typically occurs in October.
Outside of open enrollment, you cannot make changes to your plan unless you experience a qualifying event.
Qualifying events include, but are not limited to:
Change in legal marital status; marriage, divorce, legal separation, annulment, or death of a spouse
Change in number of dependents; birth, death, adoption, placement for adoption, award of legal guardianship
Spouse termination of employment, resulting in loss of coverage
A court issued Qualified Medical Child Support Order (QMSCO)
Dependent satisfies or ceases to satisfy eligibility requirements
Going on or returning from unpaid leave of absence in which benefits were terminated
Death of a dependent
Addition or Loss of employment hours resulting in eligibility change
If you experience a qualifying event (QE), you have 30 days from the QE date to make limited changes to your coverage or the coverage of your dependents. If this is not done within the 30 day time period, you will be required to wait until the next open enrollment period.
