Safety & Violence Education Students Act (SAVE) Information
For SCSD Families in Grades 6-12
Ohio's 133rd General Assembly has enacted House Bill 123, the 'Safety and Violence Education (SAVE) Students Act' regarding school security and youth suicide awareness education and training. Beginning with the 2023-2024 school year and continuing each subsequent year, schools are required to provide three hours or three standard class periods of evidence- based instruction in each of the following topics for students in grades 6-12:
Social Inclusion
Safety Training and Violence Prevention
Suicide Awareness and Prevention
Each school district must use a training program approved by the Ohio Department of Education. The Springfield City School District will be utilizing the following materials from Sandy Hook Promise Program:

Suicide Awareness and Prevention - Sandy Hook Promise, Say Something –

Parents and guardians have the right to opt out of any or all of the instruction and activities required by this law. SCSD parents or guardians wishing to have their child excused from this instruction should complete the opt out form below.
